V. Search Engine Optimization
This particular section is where I really hang myself out on a
limb. So believe this stuff or not – you won’t find but a very small
handful of people who agree with what I say here.
But, like most herds, they are only following what they’ve been told.
The most interesting point is that Google has already laid it out that they are going to be drop-kicking a lot of their traditional models people have been using to evaluate sites with. So this particular area is changing incredibly.
My point here is that you should not ever become soley dependent on search engines for your traffic. And you should have far more returning customers than you have new ones (which IMHO is the only reason for search engines – and why they only really survive from advertising. Both are designed specifically to get new potential customers.)
And so this section continues in my irreverent tradition of turning things on their heads in order to make sense of what I’ve had to swallow for the past few years.
Assignment:
1. Read, study, and make your own notes about this chapter and the accompanying articles.
2. Assemble these into a logical sequence in your 3-Ring Binder.
3. Look up your own Analytics and see what you can learn about how the search engines are treating your site(s). See if they give you any valuable data that you can use to improve visitor traffic.
Note: these lessons are simply a guide to get through my book (which you can buy from my online storefront). They won't do you much good without it. Some parts are available at Storeblogs.com
